Here’s a great opportunity to win lots of books!
First, the tantalising prizes:
- 1st prize – A RM100 MPH voucher
- 2nd prize – A RM50 MPH voucher
- 3rd prize – A RM30 MPH voucher
So just imagine all the books you could buy!
Here’s all you have to do:
1. Of the 21 stories in 44 Cemetery Road, write a blog post stating which ones are your THREE FAVOURITE TALES. You’ll also need to say in 50 words or more WHY you particularly enjoyed each of those stories.
2. In the comment box here or at my 44 Cemetery Road blog, you’ll need to provide the URL to your blog post.
3. If you don’t have a blog or prefer not to do a blog post, you can list your three favourite tales and reasons why by commenting in the comment box here or at my 44 Cemetery Road blog.
4. I’ll pick the 1st prize winner. As for the 2nd and 3rd prize winners, these will be picked at random (so anyone can win!) The judge’s decision is final, so please do not instigate legal action! 🙂
5. Anybody can enter the contest. The MPH vouchers can only be used at MPH bookshops in Malaysia. Instead of MPH vouchers, I may send you a Malaysian Ringgit cheque instead. BTW, only one submission per person! 🙂
6. To celebrate Malaysia’s 50th independence anniversary, the closing date is is 31 AUGUST 2007 (yeah!) I’ll announce the winner within a week of the closing date.
I look forward to your entries!
My thanks to Lydia Teh from whom I nicked this great publicity and competition idea!

The Width of a Circle –
I like this story very much. How Adam left his home and arrived at a strange new place to find himself being stalked by a creepy old man. But it was the ending that made me fall in love with this story, the clever little twist that the old man was no one but himself in the years to come. I thought that was brilliant, I really didn’t expect it.
Paradise Revisited –
I read this one whilst sitting in a little café in KLCC. I was really hooked on to it, interested on how Matthews got to know Mok. This story was not as frightening as the rest, and I quite like that because hell the other stories scared me to near death. I thought the part where Matthews found out he was eating human meat to be highly amusing. Not so good of me, but I just couldn’t help laughing. This one is my favourite story of all.
44 Cemetery Road –
44 Cemetery Road I thought was an immensely beautiful story, and not to mention a chilling one. I just love how Janice told her husband her secret, to meet her in seven days at the cemetery. I loved that, it was so romantic. On the other hand the story of Vera was so menakutkan. The ending was lovely, especially when George spoke. Brilliant. ❤
Another thing I would like to add, just to tell… Something Called Mamsky scared me to death, and it has been haunting my thoughts till today. Haha.
The book was wonderful, Tunku. Keep up the good work. ^^

Jai – You deserve a medal as the first to enter the competition! It’s wonderful to know what you thought of my tales. I’m looking forward to reading more.

Thanks. ^^
It was fun to read your book, but I have to admit I was so frightened by it. I couldn’t sleep without thinking of the pontianak, or that doll. And I have one of those dolls here… -heart beats wildly- Haha.

Jai – oh so you keep a toyol? Like to sell him to me? 🙂
July 19, 2007 at 6:07 am
Hm… I will demand a high price. Haha.
July 23, 2007 at 11:44 pm
Jai – Yes, should be worth more than a bungalow in Kenny Hills! 🙂
July 25, 2007 at 6:15 am
Well, maybe if you belanja me a Happy Meal at McDonald’s, I can cut down the price a little. Haha.

Jai – No problemo! With or without fries?

I love “Biggest Baddest Bomoh”, particularly the twist and the funny way its written. I also love that talking goat. My other favourite is “Malay Magick” because the writing is very atmospheric and that sexual creature is so strange. But my top favourite is “Four Numbers for Eric Kwok” because it was pretty scary and those scenes in the graveyards really gave me the creeps. There’s also a moral in the tale which I really like

Tunku, i would love to vote for Pontianak and The Doll (Toyol). I can’t imagine myself going out during happy hour to visit a hill and to find one of my friends dah jadi pontinanak. and to stay up late just to catch a toyol, that gonna be pretty cool and i guess i’ll be the first one to cabut lari.
