I’m doing a couple of Book Talks this weekend in KL.
I’ll be at MPH Mid Valley followed by Borders Curve on Sunday 14 June.
I’ll be chatting about my new book, History of Malaysia – A Children’s Encyclopedia. You’ll find out why it took me 5 years to complete it. I’ll discuss the writing process and how different it was from writing stories or standard non-fiction.
What’s more, as it’s a self published book, you’ll also find out about how you too can self publish your own work.
The times are:
2pm – 3pm MPH Mid Valley
4pm – 5pm Border Curve
Please do come to either or, if you’re really keen, both!
RSVP is not required. Just come along with your friends and relatives.
See you there!

Salam Tunku Halim,
I bought your “A children’s history of Malaysia” last year and my then 8 year’s old son really loves it! From then on, he really got a deep interest in history, particularly Malaysian history. Every time we go back to KL (we live in Indonesia), he would persuade me to bring him to bookstore and look for more books on history of Malaysia. But none was available or interest him. Yesterday my cousin, knowing about my son’s passion, called up to tell about your encyclopedia, of course we get her to buy for us right away! Can’t wait to go back to KL this July and give the book to my son, who is already 9 this year.
It’s a shame that we’ll miss talk at MPH next Sunday. He’s one of your greatest fan. He even mistakenly mentioned your name as Prime Minister of Malaysia when I gave him quiz about Malaysia! (I wonder if there’ll be another appearance in July?)
Thank you, Tunku Halim, for taking your time to write good books for children.
Warm regards,
Nanizakri

Tunku,
Even though only a tumpanger (there’s another Malaysian word for you) I am delighted that we could meet. I wish you every success with your latest book as I continue to marvel at how you can be so productive and so consistently good. Must be the air in Tasmania (and the grass-fed cows that produce the stuff that butters your bread, underneath a thick layer of preserved fruit from IXL’s orchard!). Please do not sayyour book is ’self-published’. You are now the boss of a publishing house and your first title is a beautiful work indeed. I wish you and your publishing house every success, and I hope one day to have a book published by you (after many rejection slips).
Godspeed, Sir, and good luck!

Kak Teh – I’ll hop over for a listen. Thanks so much. I look forward to meeting you again!
Awang – It was wonderful to have met you. Pity we couldn’t chat about Bob Dylan. That’s good advise about publishing, it’s all about spin nowadays … but spinning gives me a headache la!
Maria – Thanks!
